Aizawl, Bangalore: The very existence of Mara Churches are missing from the latest handbook released by Mizoram state government in the form of 'Mizoram Statistical Handbook'.

According to David M. Thangliana, one of the most revered journalists from the state, this handbook is the most comprehensive statistical data on Mizoram state(source: kanglaonline.com, zoram.org). However, many Maras are fuming as the Mara Churches' data are missing from such comprehensive data of the state.

Mara Churches comprised of Congregational Church of India (Maraland) and Evangelical Church of Maraland [India] (ECM(I), they are the two Churches from a unified Mara Church founded by Rev. Reginal Arthur Lorrain in 1907, and the larger one ECM(I) has about 200 missionaries, number of Pastors, and about 40,000 members, including few Churches in Lawngtlai District, one Church each in Aizawl, Lunglei and Shillong.

"Mara Churches, along with Presbyterian Church of Mizoram and Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM) are the only three Churches founded by the Pioneer Missionaries to Mizoram, and have played a very important role in shaping up the development of whole state," said Rev. Peter Bei Chatlai Beita, when contacted by Maraland.NET News Network.

"And as such Mara Churches' existence too cannot be missed out on such an important Statistics of the state," he added.

"Not only Mizoram Statistical Handbook, but also the state government website (mizoram.nic.in) has never listed Mara Churches [ECM(I) & CCI(M)] as a part of the Churches in Mizoram," the authorities must be alerted and the necessary measures be taken up quickly," concluded the Pastor.

Let's hope the authorities take note of this.

Some Mizos "not all of them" should be placed at the category of "Backward Class" or "Backward People" because they are still practicing discrimination even in 21st Century. Shame on them - to those who involve in compilation of the book. It is also, Maras to do their own job - compiling the most accurate yet sophisticate Statistic of Maraland and Mara People.
Wake Up, Mara People!

It should not be a surprising one to hear the so called Mizoram Statistical Handbook or whatever bla bla bla has omitted the Maras existence.

It is a good time and oppotunity to realize that they (Mizo and other neigbor) brethern have not only trying to ignore, but iliminate the exixtence of Mara among them. Wake up, Maras! You got to learn how to stand on your own foot!

Regards the ommission of Mara church data in the Mizoram Statistical Handbook, it could be because of ignorance on the part of the compilers and researchers. If so, let us forgive them.

If not ignorance, it could be intentional omission because of the fact that, in addition to its confessional name, "evangelical",the church also has its geographical name, Maraland, in its name. Thus compilers of the handbook may have thought that this church is not Mizo church, but Mara church (or Maraland church). If that is the case, then so be it. Let us rather take our pride in the omission. They just demonstrated the reality.

It could also be that they do not want the name "Maraland" to appear in the official documents due to the grand Mizonization drive (i.e., all the people in Mizoram are Mizos).

It would be good, if the Evangelical Church of Maraland officially ask the Directorate of Statistics concerning the ommission of the ECM.

This is nonsense. How could they miss out Mara Church from the stats? Or that's a stats just for Mizos without Maras in Mizoram? They make me laugh...
