Indian PM promises more rice for Mizoram |

NEW DELHI: The Government of India has agreed to provide additional quota of rice to Mizoram to meet the shortfall of state’s granary in fulfilling the local demand.
The decision was taken by the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh during his meeting with Mizoram Governor Lt Gen (Rtd) M M Lakhera on Thursday to discuss the need for more rice quota for the state.
The Governor informed the Prime Minister that the spreading of rodents due to Bamboo Flowering and the long and heavy rainfall in Mizoram had destroyed the rice crops in the state.
He stressed on the need for sanction of additional rice quota for distribution among the people and also sought central grants for procurement of the same.
The Prime Minister also promised to take necessary steps for creation of separate IAS Cadre for Mizoram as requested by the Governor assured that the financial problems of the state will be looked after.
