Mara rah Lālai (Road) siepahliena mo pasiana.

Delhi Mara Satlia, congratulations for the informative and resourceful write-up. As far as practicable, since its inception, I had tried to follow the developments of the PMGSY scheme. I can recall how enthusiastic I had been when it was launched. And that enthusiasm was further revved-up by the successful implementation of the scheme that I can witness here in Andhra Pradesh. Naturally, I had hoped that the scheme would also work wonders for our district too. More so, considering the poor financial status of our state; without having to burn a hole in the pocket of the state's already cash-starved treasury, the centrally sponsored scheme would deliver the goods for us which the state government might never take up even in a hundred years time. The potential that it presents is tremendous: by connecting the rural vilages with good motorable roads, it will not only connect these villages geographically, but most importantly economically it will integrate the rural market with the urban. Such a development could've revolutionized our economic system.

However, folowing the implemention of the scheme in our part of the country is a total disappointment! We are making fools out of our own selves and digging our own grave! Those few who can have access to the scheme are far too short-sighted to be able to see the long-term benefits that a honest implementation of the scheme could've had for our district's over-all developmental needs.

And the rest of the general public have little or no knowledge of the real provisions and purpose of the scheme. In other words, the general public was not well-informed enough about the scheme so as to enable them to demand from the implementing agencies what was due to them. And, I can rightly say that even our officers and politicains failed us in that they did not lobby enough in order to extract what was rightfully due to us. Basically, it was their ignorance and lack of enthusiasm in pursuing the intersts of the people that they represents.
Our society lacks a vigilant public opinion, a dedicated presure-group, and a far-sighted leadership. When such mechanisms are in place, let us hope that we'll finally get that which is due to us. Untill then, let our politicains and bureaucrats have a field day..God help us.God forgive Us..We live on... - Hyderabad Soccer

THAT ELUSIVE DEVELOPMENT...
A hundred year after we've recieved the Gospel, and over thirty years after we've had our own district council and also after having sent two representatives to the highest decision making institution of the state (the Legislative assembly)that talk, or DREAM might be more approriate, of a more prosperous future, a better life and life-style; the preservation of our land, tradition and culture, etc which was the destination marked for us by our leaders still apears to be a distant dream for the dominant (85 %) segment of our people! What might be the stumbling blocks that hindered this march? Where have we gone off-path? Do we need an alternative route to achieve that DREAM of prosperity, preservation and promotion of our culture and traditional heritage? Look around us: while the world around us is marching ahead at the speed of gigabytes and terabytes, we ought to ask ourselves at what speed are we moving in this fast-paced world? Unless we speed up, rev-up our accelerators NOW, we could be too late in this race where every nation and civilization compete with each other for prosperity and survival. Do we need an overhaul of our current socio-political and religious systems? Do we need to re-evaulate our social norms, mores and value-systems?Are our current institutions good enough to take us to that destination which is our collective dream? These are a few questions that I'd like my fellow Maras to ponder and also act-upon...Taking into consideration the current political and social shambles that gripped our beloved Motherland.....

Readers are encouraged to post their insightful and valuable comments!
