'A nation gets a leader it deserves." goes the adage.What ever has been said about our representative, I too finds it hard to disagree.
Though less talked about than our leader currently under scrutiny, our "Honourable" (Honourable as in the words of Brutus!) member from Saiha constituency, i feel, deserves similar scrutiny and perfomance evaluation from the electorates. We Maras suffer from a dreadeful diesease which I choose to call Affiliation syndrome (AS). We throw away our sense of fairplay because of AS.
AS further blurred our already dreadful myopic vision.We even sell our souls, not to get treated of the diesease, but to get infected by it! And then, we even sacrificed the comforts and prosperity of our own generation, not to mention of the unholy compromises we make for our future generations!All becoz of our sense of Affiliation to someone of our own sub-tribe, clan or lineage in matters of election to any representative institutions in our land unmindful of the crediblity, integrity or perfomance of such candidates.
This is not to say that I fail to see the immediate benefits that one may get from such un-holy, myopic AS-alliances. But, the more pressing question that clouds my mind is that: is it really fair (or, has it become a pregrogative..) for a politician to first crown his kith and kin (ostensibly for "Security" reasons)and then only dispense with the left-overs with/to his electors? This question, though I had asked belatedly, has been more than answered by our elected representatives of all hues. They've answered it in BOLD-CAPITAL LETTERS, yet visible only to the discerning eye! Check the land-records of MADC.
Check the family affiliations of her staffs...yet, we choose to re-elect them term after term, just becoz they'd ocassionaly apply honey on our lips while pocketing the rest of the honeycomb! Who's to be blamed? Our Representatives?No, never!stand on their shoes and I'm sure you'll be worse!Let's forgive 'em for they know not what they do! The real culprit (and the worst Victim aswell) is me, the elector, who choose to elect such piece of shit...

A hundred year after we've recieved the Gospel, and over thirty years after we've had our own district council and also after having sent two representatives to the highest decision making institution of the state (the Legislative assembly)that talk, or DREAM might be more approriate, of a more prosperous future, a better life and life-style; the preservation of our land, tradition and culture,etc which was the destination marked for us by our leaders still apears to be a distant dream for the dominant (85 %) segment of our people!
What might be the stumbling blocks that hindered this march? Where have we gone off-path? Do we need an alternative route to achieve that DREAM of prosperity, preservation and promotion of our culture and traditional heritage? Look around us: while the world around us is marching ahead at the speed of gigabytes and terabytes, we ought to ask ourselves at what speed are we moving in this fast-paced world? Unless we speed up, rev-up our accelerators NOW, we could be too late in this race where every nation and civilization compete with each other for prosperity and survival.
Do we need an overhaul of our current socio-political and religious systems? Do we need to re-evaulate our social norms, mores and value-systems?Are our current institutions good enough to take us to that destination which is our collective dream? These are a few questions that I'd like my fellow Maras to ponder and also act-upon...Taking into consideration the current political and social shambles that gripped our beloved Motherland.....
