Hi Emon and others, this is in response to your comments about the three Mizo songs being included in the album....Do u ever think about the plight of Mara singers? If not, do so now...Every singer wants to reach out to as many people as possible, because as an artist, she needs publicity, needs to sell out hundreds of copies, spent a lotta bucks on that (who knows, she could be loaning money and has to work hard to repay her loan...possible???)...Now, going back to your comments, don't you think 3 songs in her album are agreeable for her to be able to distribute the copies widely??
Are her Mizo or Lai friends going to buy if its loaded only with Mara songs??? Never, becos, try as you may, its always hard to connect to a song for which you dont understand the language...Secondly, if Siamkungi makes a handsome profit out of this becos she is able to sell her copies to Maras, Mizos, and Lais, and she becomes richer by a few handsome bucks, we should be glad for the fact that one more Mara has learn to stand on her feet...We the Maras are not very encouraging to the artists if we have to talk in terms of the number of copies sold out, becos a couple of my singer acquiantances have CDs lying untouched even though people complimented them on their albums...wheeewww...Hypocrisy???You decide..
Siamkungi by putting 3 Mizo songs, perhaps could lead to a larger number of copies being sold out, so lets be happy for her while we happily listen to the 9 Mara songs...Lets all buy the CD...With the number of hit songs, its a good bang for the money!
Lastly, I would like to remind all my Mara bros and sis to propagate our feelings in the right directions and allow our MARA FEELINGS to surface only for the right cause at the right time. Let us, as an educated and sane people, learn and try to rise above the "MARA FEELING" threshold and look at things from different perspective before we speak freely.
Siamkung, "all my best wishes" and you are an "absolute joy" to us!

Happy Listening to all!

Before what? If you read it carefully, You will find that it could be due to personal reasons for which we dont even know.Para 1 and 2 speak mostly on that..so why cant we respect that?
I'm not sure I get your question right but correct me if i'm wrong...hypothetically speaking, If i were a Mara singer trying to promote myself as a singer not only in Mizoram but outside as well, I'm sure I'll include some English songs so as to enhance the chance of grabbing a wider mass attention..what say you?
The Maras as a whole do not need to sing Tlaikao song at all (I dont even know one para of a Tlaikao song), but it may be necessary for a Mara as an individual/singer to create a niche for himself/herself....Does that answer your question? Your question itself is a bit dodgy wheee....

Restriction is outta question, don't even mention...and which part of your selective senses made you dare to even compare a Mara magazine and an individual album??? Think of the Saiha Herald.(Heard its published in Mizo and English...can't complain). As much as they do it for the benefits of Maraland, their personal profits cannot be ignored becos they go hand in hand...if they profit, only then can they continue generating better newspaper (Money talks!)....and thats exactly what Siamkungi is doing...Do you want another album of hers to come out in the future?? Then she better has her slice of pie now....
Remember, theres a mighty difference between exploring the market with your own resource for the lifespan is decided by the success of the domain you ventured out for (survival of the fittest), whereas the Mara magazine you mentioned hardly has anything to do with lifespan, they are normally one-time thing, and if not, even so, their next issue is not really bothered by the succes or failure of their previous magazine...(and usually they are funded)....So, its perfectly fine for them to write only in English or Mizo or Mara or Hindi etc ...for all that I care!
Have you ever questioned the admin of Maraland.net for having put up the section for English articles in this Maraland site? I don't think you even should....becos their answers won't be far from mine! Have a nice day!
Written by Guest on 2008-11-18 20:22:46
@Eat a Piece of my mind!, You've made your point clear and I agree with you. Having said that, however, we can't compare English articles at Maraland.net with the 3 Mizo songs at Siamkungi's album. Give some other better examples.

If putting 3 Mizo songs sell her album, good for her. I guess that is a very good sign for any Mara artists as they can expand their reaches and in turn make some bucks. Mara language/music market is too small and this is the only way to make singing their living or worth investing their time. However, if the market is big enough, it is unnecessary.

The concern of other users should not be viewed as narrow-mindedness. They are entitled to have their opinion just as we do.

Let's hope the album sells!
- VT, Shillong tawhta pyly ei cha hra hi.
Eat a Piece of my mind!-Hey VT
Written by Guest on 2008-11-18 21:24:25
Surely not all of us are from Shillong..I guess Emon-mara and you are....anyway, thanks a helluva lot for sharing my views...I made comparison on the context that if anything has to be appreciated and valued at all, it needs a wider mass appeal..(no harm intended to Maraland.net, I love it whicheverways..)...and we do whatever it takes to achieve that...could be adding a little here and there or removing a little something...thats all am trying to point out....Heres my answers...

@However, if the market is big enough, it is unnecessary.
Exactly, this is what I was trying to communicate all this while...Jessica Simpson needs not sing at all in foreign languages whereas Shakira keeps switching between English and Latin (even tho both are famous) cos if Shakira limits herself only to Latin Music, half of the world won't understand her and she would've never reached this far!

@The concern of other users should not be viewed as narrow-mindedness. They are entitled to have their opinion just as we do.

I don't think i ever used the term narrow-minded...I just mentioned that its important to view things from a broader perspective...and for a fact, if a person fails to do that, I don't think narrow-mindedness is the right term at all...(a narrow-minded person is still narrow minded even if he can view things from a broader perspective)..lets try getting a more appropriate term for that ...And this is not a war....People make statements and they do get attack all the time...so thats what happens here; trying to convince each other with our few pointers...I'm outta here...its dragging on for too long :)
Hows the hunger strike thing going on, by the way?

@East piece of my mind! - I said you made your point clear... By mentioned Narrow-mindedness, I meant to say we can't think "my way, my thinking, my perspective" is the best. Many a times we dont say out loud but the rhetoric we use tells.

@burgerstud2005, tx for the news. These are bunch of political jokers who have no stable principle to stand on but will run around just for the sake of their personal gains. They enjoyed being MNF workers - most of them are contractors disguising in the mask of politicis. They are dangerous. Besides, some of the names you've mentioned have no political weight at all, I do not want to name them.

Don't you participate in the strike as well??? You seem to be fully charged with enery...makes me think if the stomach is all that empty????(jokes apart)
On a more serious note: I wish the timing could've coincided better (Not at this time, while the election is just around the corner...you see, all the politicians go their separate directions trading their policies and promises to every voters and your(Shillong Students) demand obviously hasnt got the attention it deserves from the Politicians)...Just be strong and hold on to your demand for it can only bring about a better tommorow for the students to come...Your efforts will go a long way, VT...(Has any kind of help been rendered by the M.Ch.P, MTP etc as I believe they were marked a copy of the letter too..)

@Hey guys...u know what?...many MNF workers were expelled from the party

Hey burgerstud2005,thx... you're informative...where do you base?? I agree with Maraness, cos those politicians no longer have political weight at all (Or did they ever have)....They are just a clown in the political arena, trying to reinvent themseleves someway or the other but could no longer becos their principles, ideas etc have been bogged down by their greed and stupidity....They never proved themselves..The only thing they proved was that most of them were chameleons..(one of them being a relative of mine..not that close though...damnation!!!)..Whichever party a politician belongs to, at the end of the day, an efficient politician is always remembered.(talk about the power of good deeds!)...God save the land!

I agreed with you both.U Mara guys should distinguish which one is best 4 mara people in particulars. These people are trying get benefits of being the activists of ruling party. They have never done any good deeds to the mara people. You guys visit the interior villages down south beyond PHura..you will see the toiling villagers with simplicity and innocence. These villagers are exploited by the so called politicians.
